Timothy's World Coffee, Mocha Java, K-Cups for Keurig Brewers, 25-Count Boxes (Pack of 2) Price: $20.00
This review is not about the Kona blend coffee itself, which tastes just fine to me, but rather about the poor construction of Timothy's K-Cups that is forcing me to do extra cleanup after each brew.

The K-Cups I received from Amazon were badly damaged in shipping. I was a little surprised that the shipping box was not nearly as damaged as the K-Cups inside. Still, I didn't think much of the damage because Amazon was very prompt in refunding my order. But, after trying a fresh batch of these K-Cups, I am convinced that Timothy's K-Cups are just poorly constructed and are prone to damage.

Here's the problem. After each brew of these K-Cups, the brewing compartment is left with a good amount of coffee which I have to rinse and soak up with a paper towel (I don't know how else to clean it!). Also, the bottom of the K-Cups is clearly warped and bent after each brew.

My guess is that the bottom of Timothy's K-Cups is not suitable for a clean puncture. It bends under pressure, and the brewed coffee winds up getting splashed inside the brewing compartment instead of streaming straight through the dispenser.

I don't have this problem with other brands of K-Cups, e.g. Green Mountain. They have a thicker plastic ridge around the bottom of their K-Cups that allows the puncture to be made without distorting the K-Cups' structure.

Anyway, I like this coffee, but I am annoyed that construction and plastic of these K-Cups is killing the no-mess convenience of the Keurig machine.

Now here is a movie that's practically perfect for DVD. Shot over many years with eccentric actors, Jim Jarmusch's collection of black-and-white vignettes is as uneven as a collection of music videos (without songs). First machine we got had problems, Amazon replaced it, no problems with them. Construction is fine, seems to be a good quality of stainless. Comes with two filter inserts, one for a one scoop and one for two. Both seem to gunk up after a while, I had to clear the tiny bottom hole out with a wire to get them to flow again. What I have found out is that you have to run clear water through it after each use to keep things moving. Makes some real nice Cappuccino, I may upgrade to a more expensive machine if my coffee habit continues.

I needed a small bookcase for my home office, and the two-shelf Espresso bookcase from Target caught my eye. I really like the rich, dark color, and the shelves are wide and also very deep. My husband put the bookcase together for me and he didn't have any major problems with it. There were two small pieces that wouldn't screw in properly, but the bookcase seems sturdy enough without them. The wood has several small imperfections that are barely noticeable and can easily be touched up. Overall, I am impressed with this product. It's attractive and functional, and you just can't beat the $59 price! I'm probably going to order several of the five-shelf Espresso bookcases as well. I just wish Target offered a desk that matches this collection.

The bad reviews tend to be because people are not able to get a good brew from the pods. I have a Krups espresso machine that is designed to work with e.s.e pods and I consistently get a good brew. Perhaps some machines don't work well with this brand of pod. You might try it and if it works well for your machine, you'll love it.

Gaggia 14101 Classic Espresso Machine, Brushed Stainless Steel Price: $198.95
I have owned this machine for two years. It made good lattes at the start. If it still ships with the perfect crema device and the plastic wand attachment, do not use them. (I have been told htey are not included any more.) A very fine grind and a good hard tapping are important.

The machine broke (lost its pressure plug) at 8 months old. I got it back from repairs after 6 weeks! That really is too long. It cost me $50 to ship this machine in to fix because I live in the west. Repairs are done in NY.

Then I found that it leaked water. a lot. I sent it back and it came back with a new gasket. (It took less than 6 weeks the second time.) I Could have done that repair at home. It still dripped from the brew head, and all I can figure is that the valve inside needs to be replaced. I don't really know if that will fix it. It is a job I could do myself, but I am kind of over it. The machine still brews, but the coffee is not as good as it used to be.

That said, I am replacing it. In truth, with expresso machines in this price range, I have never found one that works for more than a couple of years. I have owned three. If I make two lattes a daily in that time, I feel that I have paid for the machine.

I am going to try a different brand. Maybe I will have better luck. Then maybe not.
